What is Ayurveda

An Ancient Healing Art

What is Ayurveda?

Over 5,000 years ago, India’s ancient Rishis (Sages) sought out the key to rejuvenation and longevity, to serve mankind.  The discoveries within this search, make up the world’s oldest form of holistic medicine, known as Ayurvedic Medicine (Ayur/Ayus= Life, Veda=Science/Knowledge).  It was understood that when our minds & bodies are healthy, we can then focus on evolving ourselves.

Ayurveda is based on the understanding that each individual is unique in Mind, Body and Soul and that the elements that make up that of the cosmos are also found in that of man (Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth), viewing each individual as a unique expression of these elements.  We have an inherent relationship with the world around us and our bodies react to time of day, seasons, expressions of hot and cold, sound, touch, sight, smell and taste. With improper balance of our senses and these elements disease (dis-ease) is created and with proper balance one is rejuvenated, awakening one’s vitality within, thus creating a more successful and purpose driven life, founded in our inherent nature of balance.

Commonly called the “Mother of all medicine,” as Ayurveda has inspired Chinese medicine/acupuncture, Greek medicine and thus so having influence on Western Medicine.

Ayurvedic medicine is individualized medicine, that seeks to help bring each individual back to their unique state of balance to prolong life, as well as find the root cause of any ailment and counterbalance it with appropriate diet, lifestyle, daily routine, herbs & minerals, herbal oils, breathing techniques, cleansing practices/techniques, body work and much more, all catering to the individual as a whole.

A Complete Form of Holistic Medicine

Ayurveda has found its place in many countries outside of India, which utilize its healing techniques through countless clinics and health spas around the world, as well as is treated as a complete form of Holistic medicine in some countries.  Ayurveda has established itself in Russia because of its wonderful benefits in helping those suffering from the side effects of radiation from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and has also taken root in Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Thailand and many more countries as an important role in Holistic Health care.  Although perhaps new to many in America, Ayurveda has survived the test of time through its results of profound healing.
